Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has disclosed that 200 ambulances have been insured and are currently operational across Ghana, with the government planning to procure an additional 100 ambulances in 2027.

The Minister said the move forms part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s emergency medical services, improve ambulance availability and ensure patients receive timely medical attention during emergencies.

According to Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the government’s plan to acquire more ambulances is aimed at improving emergency healthcare delivery, particularly in communities where access to emergency transportation remains a challenge.

The additional ambulances expected to be procured next year will complement the existing fleet and support hospitals, health facilities and emergency response teams across the country.

The Health Minister said the government remains committed to investing in the healthcare sector in Ghana, with a focus on improving emergency response, expanding access to quality healthcare and strengthening the country’s medical infrastructure.

The announcement comes as the government continues efforts to improve the availability and reliability of ambulance services and emergency medical care across Ghana.
