The estimated street value of the 7,173 slabs of suspected cannabis that the Ghana Police Service recovered from an impounded vehicle in the Oti Region is more than GH¢1.4 million.

Ninety-one bundles of suspected drugs were hidden inside 320 cartons of bottled mineral water.

The Volvo truck with registration number GC 3522-09 was first stopped at the Bonakye checkpoint on December 29, 2025, as it was travelling towards Kpassa, when it was discovered to be carrying illicit commodities, according to a news release released on Wednesday, February 25.

According to police, the driver and one other passenger left the car with the ignition key and ran away.

The Jasikan Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Lambert Y. Kerieba, issued an order allowing the truck to be opened on February 24, 2026.

Participants in the exercise included representatives of the Ghana National Fire Service, the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), Defence Intelligence, the Police Service, the Military, the Narcotics Control Commission (Jasikan), and the media. The exercise was held at Nkwanta.

The confiscated exhibits have been kept while the investigation is ongoing.

In addition to encouraging residents to provide reliable information to aid in crime prevention and detection, police have reassured the public of their ongoing commitment to stopping the trafficking and distribution of illegal narcotics.
