Sodium Cyanide Illegally En route to Burkina Faso is intercepted by the Upper West Regional Command

At Kaleo in the Nadowli District of the Upper West Region, the Narcotics Control Commission’s Upper West Regional Command, acting on intelligence, stopped two Rhino Kia trucks that were carrying a variety of illegal substances, such as sodium cyanide, foreign cigarettes, and various medications.

Two trucks bearing the registration numbers GS 5699-18 and GC 1871-11 were carrying the goods that were headed for Burkina Faso. The trucks included 40 barrels of sodium cyanide, 182 boxes of pharmaceutical products that were not authorised, and 58 cartons of cigarettes.

The two cars carrying the consignments and travelling to Burkina Faso were the subject of intelligence information received by officials of the Upper West Regional Command on Sunday, February 1, 2026.

The vehicles were found to be moving the goods without the necessary paperwork or authorisation after a search was done on them.

For additional investigation and prosecution, the drivers of the vehicles and their companions have been turned over to the Upper West Regional Police Command.
