Fredrick Kumi, also referred to as “Abu Trica,” has been ordered by an Accra High Court to be extradited to the United States to face charges in an alleged $8 million romance scam.

Oliver Barker-Vormawor, his attorney, confirmed the development in a Facebook post, characterising it as an expedited decision that would pave the way for a Supreme Court appeal.

Barker-Vormawor, who is now out of Ghana on business, stated in his post on Thursday, July 2, that he was aware of the court’s ruling.

He wrote, “I am out of Ghana for work. I just heard that the case of Abu Trica has been fast tracked and a judge has just ordered his extradition. Hmmm. FBI 1 – Abu 1. I guess this issue goes to the Supreme Court.”

The extradition order came after earlier procedures in which the Accra High Court granted Kumi bail in the sum of GH¢30 million with two reasonable sureties, following months in detention.

Due to accusations of romantic fraud, Abu Trica has been detained since December 2025 and is being sought by US authorities.

The future of the extradition procedure is likely to be determined by potential appeals, and the recent ruling is anticipated to escalate legal processes.
