Ghana’s Minister of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, had a courtesy call from Dr. Yuko Yasunaga, Deputy Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in Accra.
The goal of the meeting, which took place on Thursday, July 23, 2026, was to improve Ghana and UNIDO’s cooperation in creating comprehensive industrial and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) policies.
According to Dr. Yasunaga, UNIDO is still dedicated to helping Ghana co-develop industrial and SME policies based on the Kaizen principles of productivity development, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
He explained that as part of initiatives to support comprehensive and cross-cutting industrial strategies, UNIDO is prepared to extend the application of the Kaizen concept across a number of Ghanaian economic sectors, including SMEs, agro-processing, car development, and institutional capacity building.
Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare responded by praising UNIDO’s assistance via the Kaizen method and pointing out that a number of people and organisations in Ghana have already profited from Kaizen training initiatives.
In order to support government initiatives, especially those pertaining to the agro sector under the “Feed the Industry” program, she appealed for further cooperation and assistance from UNIDO.
“Government’s next budget focus is on agribusiness. As a ministry responsible for agribusiness, beyond industrialisation, raw materials would be made available to feed the industry. I therefore call on UNIDO to support the Feed the Industry programme,” the Hon. Minister said.
Hon. Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare also conveyed the government’s gratitude to the Japanese government for their ongoing cooperation and assistance, especially to Japan’s ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Hiroshi Yoshimoto.
She also welcomed the nomination of H.E. Dr. Emmanuel Kalenzi as the new UNIDO Country Representative to Ghana and Liberia, but she called for sufficient funding and assistance so that he could successfully carry out his mandate.
