The Russian Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Andrei Eduardovich Ordash, has paid a courtesy visit to the Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament as part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations and deepen bilateral cooperation between Ghana and Russia.
During the meeting, Ambassador Ordash formally invited the Speaker and Members of Parliament to participate in the 3rd Russia-Africa Summit, an international gathering expected to focus on trade, economic development, technology transfer, and stronger cooperation between Russia and African countries.
The Ambassador highlighted the potential benefits of Ghana’s participation, particularly in areas such as bilateral trade, investment, development cooperation, innovation, and technology sharing. He also stressed that the involvement of Ghana’s Parliament could contribute significantly to discussions at the summit.
Ghana-Russia Military Cooperation Agreement
The discussions also covered a major Ghana-Russia military-technical cooperation agreement signed in 2026. According to the Russian Ambassador, the agreement requires parliamentary ratification before it can become fully effective.
This places Parliament at the centre of efforts to implement the bilateral agreement and further expand Ghana-Russia defence and security cooperation.
The meeting also considered the role of the Russia-Ghana Parliamentary Friendship Association, with both parties expressing confidence that the current Parliament could help strengthen the association and promote closer inter-parliamentary relations.
Speaker Highlights Ghana-Russia Diplomatic Relations
The Speaker of Parliament, in his response, recalled his previous visits to Russia and the productive engagements he had with his Russian parliamentary counterparts.
He also highlighted his involvement with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Geo-Political Team taskforce working toward mediation efforts in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. His remarks underscored Ghana’s continued commitment to international peace, diplomacy, dialogue, and peaceful conflict resolution.
The Speaker further called for stronger cooperation between Ghana’s Parliament and the Russian Embassy in Ghana. He reaffirmed the importance of deepening diplomatic and parliamentary relations to promote mutual economic growth, peace, development, and prosperity.
The engagement reflects ongoing efforts by Ghana and Russia to strengthen bilateral relations and explore new opportunities in trade, technology, defence cooperation, parliamentary diplomacy, and economic development.
