The major transmission pipeline from the Kpong Treatment Plant to the eastern section of Accra will be under construction, according to a statement from the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL).
The water supply will be interrupted from Sunday, September 24, to Thursday, September 28, 2023, according to a press release from the administration of GWCL.
Gbetsile, Afienya, Zenu, Prampram, Mataheko, Katamanso, Dawhenya, Sakumono, Batsona, Klagon, Tema Township, Adjei Kojo, Borteyman, Santeo, and other areas are among the affected areas.
The GWCL recommended people living in these communities to preserve extra water for the time that the work will be done.
However, GWCL promised that the water supply will be restored as soon as the construction was finished.
This is a component of GWCL’s plan to repair its damaged pipelines. The business noted that these repairs will enhance long-term water supply reliability as well as lessen customer annoyance from frequent service interruptions.
“In April 2021, the GWCL announced to the public, that the main 42-inch transmission pipeline was weak and as a result gave way frequently due to the high volumes and pressure in the pipeline thereby making the company lose a lot of water and revenue.”
“The works involved in changing the pipeline is capital intensive, therefore, Management has resolved to change the weak portions of the line to reduce cost and to maintain the integrity of the transmission pipeline,” the company added.
