Ghana must find a method to put an end to terrorism in the area, according to President Nana Akufo-Addo.
He has so sought the European Union’s assistance in reaching that goal.
On Monday, November 21, 2022, Mr. Akufo-Addo made the remark while speaking privately with Charles Michel, the president of the European Council, in Jubilee House.
For the “Accra Initiative,” a security summit, Mr. Michel is in Ghana.
“Today, Burkina Faso, our northern neighbor, is the center of terrorist activity. These terrorist strikes have even targeted [Ivory Coast], our neighbor to the west. Touch wood, Ghana has so far managed to escape, but how long will that be possible? remarked Akufo-Addo.
“I doubt it will last very long. Therefore, we must take the necessary precautions to assess how much we can thwart it and, most importantly, to figure out how to genuinely put an end to the terrorist threat in West Africa.
“It is not going to be easy but that has to be our goal. Just as they [terrorists] were defeated in the Middle East, we have to do the same here in Ghana,” the President added.
