Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye, Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), visited the Dialysis Center at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to evaluate the effectiveness of the government’s free dialysis program.

His goal was to keep tabs on how well hospital management was adhering to federal regulations regarding the dialysis program, which became fully operational on December 1, 2024.

Assuring renal patients of the program’s durability, Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye underlined its significance.

The government was praised by some patients who were admitted to the Center for protecting them from the financial risk of dialysis therapy.

“I was not charged a dime when I came for my dialysis treatment this morning. The process was very easy and not complex. We want to thank the government for this initiative.” said Mr. Kojo Baffour Ahenkorah, President of the Renal Patients Association of Ghana, expressing his happiness

Dr. Frank Owusu-Sekyere, the acting chief executive of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, gave the NHIA chief executive and patients assurances of high-quality service delivery while showcasing the hospital’s recently purchased dialysis equipment.

In an effort to combat the rising incidence of kidney-related conditions and guarantee that no renal patient is denied access to life-saving treatment, the free dialysis program is a major advancement.
