After a widely shared video revealed pupils utilizing toilet cubicles as dorms, the Ghana Education Service (GES) ordered the Headmaster and Senior Housemaster of the Ghana National Senior High School (GHANASCO) in Tamale to resign.

The video has been making the rounds on social media, worrying parents and the general public.

The GES reports that the school has sufficient capacity to even accommodate 300 additional pupils, despite just 1467 of the 1790 open positions being filled.

So, it was improper for pupils to be sleeping in such a location, the GES stated in a news release issued today.

The responsibility has been given to the regional director of education to look into the situation and report back in two weeks.

In the press release, the GES informed all parties involved and the general public that it would keep ensuring that the pupils under its supervision function in a secure learning environment.

The management of the school and the security of its children have come under intense scrutiny as a result of this tragedy.

The GES has committed to taking the necessary steps to guarantee that similar situations do not occur again.

It added urged parents to maintain their composure while investigations are ongoing, assuring them that their children’s safety and wellbeing are of the utmost importance.
