The Ghana Water Company’s governing board was sworn in by Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, Minister of Works, Housing, and Water Resources. Adjei urged the board to move the company from a state of bureaucratic stagnation and perceived inefficiency to one of dynamic innovation and admired competence.
With over 32 million people living in the nation and over 56 percent of them residing in urban areas, the strain on urban water delivery infrastructure is higher than it has ever been in this rapidly changing nation.
The sector minister does, however, think the new Board is capable of overcoming the many obstacles, which include outdated infrastructure, high non-revenue water (NRW) levels, low capital investment, poor source water quality, low revenue collection, illicit connections, operational inefficiencies, and security and climate risks affecting urban water supplies.

The Minister also urged the Board to avoid managing the business on a day-to-day basis and instead focus on providing the independence, supervision, and strategic direction needed to maintain accountability and protect the public interest.
” Let there be mutual respect. Let there be alignment in vision. Let there be collaboration in execution. But above all, let there be a shared commitment to service and to delivering water not just as a commodity, but as a human right and a sacred trust.”
Hon. Kenneth Adjei gave his word that the ministry will create the necessary policy framework for a successful and influential term.
Eric Biliguo is the Chairman of the Board.
Abu Mahama, Prof. Afishata Mohammed AbuJaja, Dr. Hadisu Alhassan, and Hon. Adam Mutawakilu are the other members.
Alhaji Ibrahim Abdul-Jalil, Prof. Jasper Ayelazuno, Mathias Ntow, and Nutsu Agbesi make up the remaining members.
