Reports in several media outlets that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has obtained a medical report from a hospital stating that former Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta is not fit to return to Ghana have been denied.
The OSP firmly declared in a forcefully written public notice on Tuesday, June 3, that neither Mr. Ofori-Atta nor his attorneys had provided the office with any such letter or formal medical records.
In the statement, it was underlined that neither Mr. Ofori-Atta nor his attorneys had sent the OSP any such letter.
Based exclusively on their own assertions, the OSP argues that the only communication they received from Mr. Ofori-Atta’s attorneys was a notification of a change in his health.
The office pointed out that instead of being filed through the appropriate legal processes, the letter, which was purportedly from a hospital, had been spread through the media.
“It is notable that this alleged hospital letter has been circulated through the media rather than submitted to the law enforcement agency actively investigating him and responsible for decisions regarding his return to Ghana,” the OSP reiterated.
Additionally, the office clarified that statements that Mr. Ofori-Atta is unable of traveling or is disabled have not been substantiated by certified medical records or official documentation from any hospital authority as of the notice date.
The statement implies a lack of cooperation from Mr. Ofori-Atta and his legal team with regard to official procedures and restates the OSP’s stance in its ongoing inquiry.
