A grant agreement worth ¥402 million has been signed by the governments of Ghana and Japan under the Japanese Grant Aid for the Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) Program.

The third batch of the program’s fourth phase was launched with the signing ceremony, which took place at the Ministry of Finance in Accra.

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the finance minister, spoke at the ceremony and thanked the Japanese government and people for their continuous assistance on behalf of Ghana.

He pointed out that the program supports Ghana’s continuous initiatives to develop a resilient, knowledge-driven public sector and to bolster institutional capacity.

Dr. Forson also gave an update on the state of Ghana’s economy. Ghana’s sovereign credit ratings are anticipated to rise shortly, he said, reflecting the nation’s economic recovery efforts.

Miyazaki Katsura, the head of the Japanese delegation and Executive Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), acknowledged Ghana’s request and reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to long-term development cooperation.

She emphasized the JDS Program’s strategic significance in preparing Ghanaian professionals for institutional reform and leadership roles.

The grant agreement signing, which marked the end of the ceremony, strengthened Ghana and Japan’s close bilateral ties and opened the door for further collaboration in infrastructure and human capital development.
