Ghana lost to Morocco 4-2 on penalties in the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations semifinal.

In their battle for the final ticket to the match against Nigeria, both teams put on a fierce display on the field at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.

Stella Nyamekye gave Ghana the lead in the 26th minute of the first half. Shaken, Morocco attempted to react through Mssoudy and Chebbak, but their attempts were unsuccessful.

After a flurry of Moroccan attempts, Sakina Ouzraoui Diki, who was ideally positioned at the far post, gave Morocco a goal in the 55th minute, encouraged on by their home crowd.

A fierce midfield battle and multiple injury stoppages characterized the rest of the game, but neither team was able to take the lead again. Even though both teams had a few clear chances in extra time, they kept canceling one another out.

Penalties would ultimately determine the contest.

Morocco was more composed during the shootout. Ibtissam Jraïdi, Kenza Chapelle, Hanane Aït El Haj, and Anissa Lahmari all scored from their penalty kicks, but Khadija Er-Rmichi was the hero, stopping Comfort Yeboah’s penalty kick and Evelyn Badu’s attempt.

Record holders Nigeria will face host Morocco in the final on Saturday, July 26, 2025, while Ghana will play holders South Africa in the third-place playoff.
