Ghana’s interior minister, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, had a courtesy call from the Pan-African Parliament’s (PAP) Committee on Trade, Customs, and Immigration today at his Accra office, highlighting initiatives to promote continental trade and mobility.

The group, headed by Rodney Cloete, a member of parliament from Namibia, is in Accra to assess how the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Guided Trade Initiative is being implemented.

Additionally, the visit seeks to advance procedures for the unrestricted movement of individuals throughout Africa.

Former PAP member Hon. Muntaka, who served for more than ten years, welcomed the group and said he was excited about the discussion. “It’s a pleasure to host colleagues who are dedicated to the shared prosperity of Africa,” he said at the summit.

Deepening regional integration, promoting peaceful cohabitation, and boosting intra-African trade were the main topics of debate.

The committee addressed obstacles to visa-free travel and border efficiency while highlighting the AfCFTA’s potential to accelerate economic growth.

The courtesy call is in line with the PAP’s continued support of laws that promote continental growth and unity.
