The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the Ghana Police Service have initiated simultaneous intelligence-led operations in areas of the Ashanti, Volta, and Ahafo regions to apprehend those responsible for recent attacks on security officers and anti-illegal mining task forces.

The coordinated swoops started at daybreak on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Dadwene and Anwona in the Ashanti Region, Ehi in the Volta Region, and Hwidiem, Kenyase, Guaso, and Marhani in the Ahafo Region.

The operations are intended to capture suspects connected to attacks on members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), certain police officers, and representatives of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), including journalists, according to a statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director-General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces.

Any individual or organisation that interferes with security forces’ legitimate responsibilities or supports illicit mining operations will be subject to the full force of the law, the GAF and Police warned.

The message also urged locals to maintain composure and carry on with their everyday routines without fear or panic, assuring them that sufficient precautions have been put in place to protect lives and property.

The Security Services also expressed gratitude to the public, media, and civil society organisations for their outspoken denunciation of recent attacks on police conducting anti-galamsey operations and promised to keep working together to safeguard the environment and maintain national security.
