Baba Jamal, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, is scheduled to file his nomination on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, to run in the Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election on the platform of the ruling National Democratic Congress.

Mr Jamal, a former Member of Parliament for Akwatia, has formally stated his desire to run in the election following the unexpected death of his colleague, Mahama Naser Toure, on January 4, 2026, after a brief illness.

Speaking about his choice to run in the by-election, Baba Jamal expressed confidence in his chances, citing his long-standing personal links to the constituency, which he believes will benefit him.

“In the coming by-election, I will be contesting to seek the mandate of the people of Ayawaso East to represent them in Parliament,” he said.

“My brothers and sisters, you are aware that I have been working with you on many fronts. This is the time we need to change the narrative and come together to give ourselves a different image,” he said.

Baba Jamal stated that his choice to contest was motivated by sacrifice and a deep belief in collective advancement.

“I have sacrificed to contest this election because I believe that together, we can change the narrative,” according to him.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled a by-election for the Ayawaso East Constituency on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
