The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has issued a security warning to users of digital financial services, urging the public to remain alert to mobile money fraud, online banking scams and digital financial fraud.
The central bank has advised customers not to disclose confidential financial information to unauthorised individuals in order to protect their money and personal data.
According to the Bank of Ghana, the growing use of digital banking platforms, mobile money services and electronic payment systems has increased the need for stronger cybersecurity measures. Consumers are therefore encouraged to take the necessary precautions to secure their financial accounts and prevent unauthorised transactions.
In a statement released on Wednesday, October 7, the BoG reminded customers to keep sensitive financial information private. These include Mobile Money (MoMo) PINs, ATM PINs, internet banking passwords, One-Time Passwords (OTPs) and verification codes.
The central bank’s warning highlights the importance of digital financial security as more Ghanaians rely on mobile money transfers, online banking and cashless payment services for everyday transactions.
Customers are advised to remain cautious when receiving suspicious calls, text messages or online requests for their banking details. Protecting personal financial information can help reduce the risk of fraud, identity theft and unauthorised access to bank accounts.
The Bank of Ghana continues to encourage responsible use of digital financial services to promote safer electronic transactions and strengthen public confidence in Ghana’s financial system.
