Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has reflected on the hopes, challenges and aspirations of young Ghanaians as the country marked International Youth Day.

The former Vice President highlighted the diverse groups of young people he has encountered across Ghana, including students, farmers, entrepreneurs, young professionals, artists and graduates still searching for employment opportunities.

Although young Ghanaians come from different backgrounds and face varying circumstances, Dr. Bawumia noted that many share common aspirations: securing decent jobs, starting successful businesses, living with dignity and building a more secure future.

He acknowledged that achieving these goals has become challenging for many young people due to limited employment opportunities, the high cost of starting and sustaining businesses, and growing uncertainty about the future.

Despite these challenges, Dr. Bawumia expressed confidence in the talent, creativity and determination of Ghana’s youth, describing them as one of the country’s greatest assets.

He stressed the need for policies and economic opportunities that match the ambitions of young Ghanaians, particularly in areas such as job creation, entrepreneurship, skills development and youth empowerment.

According to him, Ghana’s young people have different experiences but share a common vision of a country where they can work, build businesses and create meaningful lives.

The International Youth Day message ultimately underscores the importance of investing in Ghanaian youth and creating an economy where young people have the opportunity to shape the future they want.
