His Excellency Tong Defa, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Ghana, was greeted by Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Minister of Health, together with a distinguished entourage.
The courtesy visit focused on measures to strengthen Ghana-China health collaboration.
Both sides looked at ways to work together on traditional medicine, infrastructure development, and healthcare delivery during the discussion.
In addition to mentioning the recent funding and completion of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) and the deployment of Chinese medical teams to LEKMA Hospital since 2009, the Minister conveyed profound thanks for China’s ongoing support.
The advancement of medical education in Ghana and the resolution of important health issues have both benefited greatly from these endeavors.

Recognizing the potential for employment creation and better healthcare services, Hon. Akandoh highlighted Ghana’s increasing emphasis on the development of herbal and traditional medicine.
He urged China to help Ghana’s traditional medicine industry reach global standards by providing modern equipment, educating medical personnel, and establishing research collaborations.
The Minister also asked for support for important national health initiatives, like the Free Primary Healthcare Policy of President Mahama and the establishment of a 24-hour economy, which necessitates a stronger healthcare system.
He specifically asked for help in building two new regional hospitals in underprivileged areas and modernizing teaching hospitals to improve training and service delivery capabilities.
China and Ghana both reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing their bilateral development and health cooperation. Minister Akandoh expressed hope that the continued collaboration will help ensure that all Ghanaians have a healthier and more prosperous future.
A common goal for sustainable health development is reflected in this tour, which highlights Ghana and China’s solid and expanding collaboration in developing traditional medicine, healthcare infrastructure, and education.
