Godwin Mahama Ayaba, the Corporate Affairs Officer of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), has told Ghana that gasoline shortages are unlikely despite growing tensions in the Middle East.

Ayaba supported earlier promises from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) that the continuing confrontation between the United States, Israel, and Iran would not impair fuel supplies in the country.

According to him, the NPA just issued an official statement clarifying that the situation in the Middle East will not cause a shortage of petroleum products in Ghana.

Ayaba highlighted that Ghana’s diverse fuel import strategy greatly decreases the danger of supply disruptions. He stated that the country imports the vast majority of its final petroleum products from Europe.

“Ghana largely imports from two different areas: Europe and the Arabian region. Where we import most is Europe,” he stated on Joy Prime’s The Pulse.

According to him, roughly 20% of Ghana’s completed petroleum products come from the Arabian region, which may be impacted by the ongoing tensions, and about 80% come from Europe.

However, Ayaba stated that expanding domestic refining capacity might compensate for any supply shortfalls from the Middle East.

He revealed that TOR is presently producing roughly 28,000 barrels per day; after continuous improvements, output is anticipated to rise to 45,000 barrels and ultimately reach 60,000 barrels.

Other refineries around the nation are also supporting domestic output, Ayaba continued.

He claims that Platon Refinery produces slightly less than 3,000 barrels per day, Akwaaba Refinery produces less than 10,000 barrels, and Sentuo Refinery produces between 36,000 and 40,000 barrels per day.

He claimed that the combined output from these plants would be enough to counteract any possible Middle Eastern supply problems.

As a result, Ayaba reassured the people that there will be no gasoline shortages in Ghana and asked them not to fear.
