Ghana’s Minister for Energy, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has called on Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) member countries to strengthen regional electricity trade to improve energy security and accelerate economic development across West Africa.

Dr Jinapor made the call while delivering the opening remarks at the 16th Meeting of ECOWAS Ministers in Charge of Energy.

During the meeting, the Energy Minister highlighted the importance of reliable, affordable, accessible and sustainable energy in promoting regional integration, boosting economic growth and supporting long-term development.

He urged fellow energy ministers to encourage greater electricity trading among member states, explaining that stronger regional cooperation could help improve energy availability and strengthen the region’s collective energy security.

The minister emphasised that a more energy-secure West Africa would be better positioned to deepen regional integration, expand economic opportunities and achieve sustainable development.

The meeting forms part of ongoing regional efforts to promote cooperation in the energy sector and improve electricity access across ECOWAS member countries.
