The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), in collaboration with other security and regulatory agencies, has supervised the safe disposal of a 40-foot container of non-compliant imported diapers at the Vigour Safe Disposal Site in Shai Hills, Ghana.
The container contained loose, unpackaged and unhygienic bale diapers imported from Spain that failed to meet the required safety and regulatory standards. The disposal exercise was carried out to protect public health and prevent unsafe and potentially harmful products from entering the Ghanaian market.
The shipment was intercepted during a joint inspection at the Tema Port involving the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Customs Division, and National Security.

According to the FDA, the cost of disposing of the non-compliant diapers was borne by the importer, who was also subjected to applicable statutory fines.
The FDA has urged all importers to obtain the necessary permits, product registrations and regulatory approvals before importing goods into Ghana. Importers are also encouraged to comply with established product safety and quality standards to avoid penalties, confiscation of goods and other regulatory sanctions.
The exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen import inspection, protect consumers and ensure that only safe and approved products are sold on the Ghanaian market.
