A firefighter has collapsed after inhaling smoke while battling a late-night warehouse fire at Tamale Station in Techiman, in Ghana’s Bono East Region.
The firefighter was immediately rushed to the Holy Family Hospital for medical treatment after becoming unwell during the emergency firefighting operation.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the fire broke out at a warehouse in the Tamale Station area of Techiman late Thursday night, prompting a rapid response from fire personnel.
The warehouse reportedly contained several items, including vehicle tyres and motorcycle spare parts, which fuelled concerns about the intensity of the blaze.
Ghana National Fire Service Responds to Techiman Warehouse Fire
In a statement, the GNFS confirmed that it received the emergency fire call at 9:29 p.m. on Thursday.
The first fire appliance from Nkoranza arrived at the scene at 9:30 p.m., allowing firefighters to begin efforts to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby properties.
Fire appliances from both Techiman and Nkoranza were deployed to support the operation.
The Regional Commander, ACFO I Adobea, also arrived at the scene and assumed operational command as firefighters worked to bring the situation under control.
Nearby Filling Station Saved From Fire
The Ghana National Fire Service disclosed that a nearby Zen filling station was successfully protected during the firefighting operation.
The intervention prevented the flames from spreading to the fuel station, which could have increased the risk of further damage and posed a significant danger to people and properties in the surrounding area.
The GNFS reported that the fire had been brought under control at the time of its update. However, fire appliances from Techiman and Nkoranza remained at the scene to support ongoing operations.
