Ghanaian fuel tanker drivers have called off their sit-down strike due to alleged poor working conditions.
The Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union, as they were known, declared an indefinite sit-down strike on Tuesday and demanded better working conditions, particularly in terms of pay.
However, the tanker drivers called off the sit-down strike in a communiqué following a meeting with all relevant parties.
According to the announcement, the framework for their compensation has been approved, and by the end of June 2024, the framework’s implementation is scheduled to begin.
Union members stated in a press conference that the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and the sector Ministry have refused to implement a previously agreed-upon policy framework intended to improve their salaries and other working conditions.
The directive has been pending since November 2023.
