Germany defeated Ghana 2-1 on Monday in an international friendly played at Stuttgart’s MHP Arena.

Although the Black Stars had some strong moments, they were ultimately defeated by a strong German team. For the match, Otto Addo made two calculated adjustments to his starting lineup. Lawrence Ati-Zigi was replaced by Accra Hearts of Oak custodian Benjamin Asare.

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku was replaced in defence by Kojo Oppong Peprah of OGC Nice. Along with Jonas Adjetey and Alexander Djiku, Peprah was a member of a three-man defence that also included Derrick Kohn and Caleb Yirenkyi as wingbacks.

Antoine Semenyo, Jordan Ayew, and Prince Kwabena Adu spearheaded the attack, while Thomas Partey and Kwasi Sibo played in the midfield.

Early in the game, Germany dominated possession, and Florian Wirtz’s goal was disallowed for offside.

Kai Havertz’s penalty kick in the 45th minute broke the impasse right before halftime. A VAR review that verified a handball by defender Jonas Adjetey in the 44th minute led to the ruling.

After halftime, Ghana substituted Elisah Owusu with Kwasi Sibo, a move that clearly improved the midfield’s stability.

Shortly after replacing Prince Kwabena Adu, Derrick Kohn gave Abdul Fatawu Issahaku a vital assist to score the equaliser, demonstrating the effectiveness of the move.

Ghana’s attacking efforts in the closing moments were revitalised by this goal.

However, Deniz Undav’s goal in the 88th minute gave Germany the victory.

Derrick Luckassen replaced Kojo Oppong Peprah in further changes for Ghana, while Christopher Bonsu Baah and Kamal Deen Sulemana entered the race to replace Caleb Yirenkyi and Derrick Kohn.

Despite the loss, the Black Stars’ performance demonstrated the potential of a number of new players on the team and provided insightful information about Coach Addo’s tactical changes.
