Departments and agencies under Ghana’s Ministry of Energy have outlined measures to address irregularities identified in the 2025 audit findings, with a focus on improving financial accountability, reducing operational costs and strengthening efficiency across the energy sector.

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) attributed some of its challenges to inadequate domestic gas production and the need to import gas from Nigeria. The corporation indicated plans to increase local production, explore domestic investment opportunities to reduce costs and consider investments in the mining sector.

The Energy Commission also reported improvements in payment controls and fraud prevention, alongside efforts to recover outstanding debts and manage medical expenses for retired employees.

Meanwhile, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) suspended payments throughout 2025 under an uneconomic vehicle lease agreement and reported progress in revenue mobilisation to improve its financial performance.

The Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) confirmed that it had corrected a contract overpayment identified during the audit process.

Other institutions, including the Volta River Authority (VRA), Bui Power Authority and Petroleum Hub Development Corporation, have also addressed concerns raised in their respective audit findings.

However, the Valco Trust Fund has been directed to appear before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Monday to provide further clarification on issues arising from the audit.

The responses form part of broader efforts to strengthen financial management, improve transparency and ensure accountability among government institutions operating within Ghana’s energy sector.
