Ghana’s commitment to refugee protection and long-term solutions was underlined by Interior Minister Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak during the 76th Annual Plenary Session of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Executive Committee of the High Commissioner’s Programme in Geneva.

He asserts that Ghana has made progress in collaborating with nations of origin to guarantee the effective completion of all facets of long-term solutions, including the legal ones.

Speaking about the Gobal Refugee Crisis and Ghana’s role in refugee protection and long-term solutions, the Minister emphasised Ghana’s dedication to upholding the principles of the Global Compact for Refugees (GCR).

The Ghana Refugee Agribusiness Sustainability Programme (GRASP), which aims to create a flagship livelihood activity for refugees and their host communities, is being implemented in collaboration with the UNHCR, he said.

In order to strengthen national security, provide refugee protection, and promote long-term solutions, Ghana has also collaborated with its neighbours to create a sub-regional policy, Hon. Muntaka continued.

The Minister praised Mr Filippo Grandi, the departing UNHCR High Commissioner, for his outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment to defending refugees and advancing their rights.
