Three buses have been given to the Ghana Prisons Service by Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Interior Minister, to enhance the inmates’ access to courts, medical facilities, and rehabilitation programs.
The buses, which include one Toyota Coaster, one Hyundai County, and one Ashok Leyland, were made possible by two contributions from Maripoma Company Limited and one from the National Security Secretariat.

“These buses are more than just a means of transport. They are instruments of efficiency, safety, and dignity,” he said.
Noting President John Dramani Mahama’s contribution of GHS 1 billion towards this goal, the Minister highlighted the Government’s commitment to bolstering the penal system, encouraging rehabilitation throughout prisons, and retooling all security services.
Additionally, Hon. Muntaka declared that the daily allotment for inmates’ meals will be increased from GHS 1.80 to GHS 5.00.
The goal of this action is to give more wholesome meals to more than 14,000 prisoners nationwide.
The Minister said, “While I had hoped for an even greater increment, this marks a long-overdue departure from a rate that had been stagnant for far too long,”

The Minister expressed gratitude to Maripoma Company Limited and the National Security Secretariat for their assistance and urged businesses, organisations, and people everywhere to support the Ghana Prisons Service by providing infrastructure, training, equipment, or even little gestures of kindness.
Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq.), Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, conveyed deep appreciation for the donation, calling it an investment in human dignity that will support the service’s efforts to rehabilitate prisoners and advance their welfare.
She expressed her gratitude to the Hon. Minister for his commitment and steadfast support since taking office.
“Hon. Muntaka has shown himself to be a true advocate and champion for the Ghana Prisons Service, giving us confidence and stability to stand on our feet,” she stated.
