The Bureau of the 6th Specialised Technical Committee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Water and Environment (STC-ARDWE-6) at the African Union (AU) Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, has elected Ghana as its First Vice Chair.
Ghana’s increasing impact and dedication to promoting sustainable agriculture, fisheries, and environmental management throughout the continent is reflected in this historic accomplishment, which comes after the strong leadership and directive of Hon. Emelia Arthur (MP), Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture.
This job has a two-year term that can be extended for another two years.
But because Cameroon, the nation that was first elected as Chair, was subject to sanctions, Ghana has taken over as Chair of the current STC session, demonstrating its willingness to take the lead and make a significant contribution to important policy discussions within the African Union.
The Technical and Experts Session of the STC, which is set for October 21–23, 2025, will be chaired by Professor Wisdom Akpalu, Chairman of the Fisheries Commission of Ghana, in light of this event.
His leadership will prepare the ground for the October 24, 2025, Ministerial Session.
Ghana’s appointment to this important post demonstrates its dedication to regional collaboration and its critical role in advancing environmentally friendly and sustainable farming methods throughout Africa.
