The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) president, Kurt Okraku, has established a strict player selection process in front of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the US, Canada, and Mexico.

Only those who have continuously shown true devotion and respect for the Black Stars will be given consideration for the national squad, Okraku said in an interview with 3Sports.

A number of foreign-born players have indicated interest in playing for the Black Stars in the Mundial now that Ghana has been confirmed as a tournament participant.

However, Okraku made it apparent that not all players would be welcome, particularly those who have previously demonstrated a lack of dedication.

“We are looking for players who are committed to the Ghanaian flag, to the ideals of the Black Stars, and who truly feel a sense of responsibility to represent Ghana,” Okraku explained.

“There must be a valid reason why a player is included in the squad. I am not interested in players who only want to wear the jersey when it’s convenient for them. The team will be built on dedication, passion, and respect for the nation.”

Reports of foreign-born athletes showing interest in representing Ghana in the World Cup coincide with Okraku’s position.

The GFA President stressed that previous actions will be taken into serious consideration, but he did not rule out these players.

“If you’ve declined an invitation in the past or shown a lack of respect for Ghana’s jersey, don’t expect to be called up for the 2026 World Cup,” Okraku declared.

“This is about national pride, discipline, and a long-term commitment to our cause. If you’ve turned us down before, you will not be part of the team moving forward.”
