The early hours of Tuesday, October 21, 2025, saw the start of a large commercial fire that involved several stores along Kantamanto Tazani Lane close to Ecobank.
by 01:31, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) got a distress call, and by 01:42, the first fire apparatus reached the scene.
Circle, Industrial Area, Accra Regional Headquarters, Madina, Legon Fire Stations, and two (2) appliances from the National Headquarters mobilised a total of seven (7) fire engines and a Turntable Ladder (TL) to combat the fire.
Following extensive firefighting efforts, the fire, which had impacted a few business buildings, was contained by 0449 hours.
Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, the acting chief fire officer, is presently on the ground to evaluate the situation and gather firsthand accounts of the occurrence.
On-site operational support is also being provided by the Director of Operations, the Greater Accra Regional Commander, and other senior officers.
Strict firefighting measures are being taken to fully contain the issue.
One firefighter asphyxiated after inhaling smoke during operations, but National Ambulance Service officers quickly administered first aid and took him to the hospital for additional care.
