With effect from today, Tuesday, October 22, 2025, the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has formally started applications for refinery licenses and jewellery and fabrication licenses (Categories A, B, and C).

In line with the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), the program seeks to increase regulatory compliance, formalise the downstream gold value-addition sector, and encourage sustainable industry growth, the Board said in a statement.

Only licensed individuals are permitted to engage in gold dealing, jewellery making, fabrication, and refining in Ghana, according to GoldBod.

It further stated that the new legal framework nullifies the validity of all licenses previously granted by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.

Current operators in the industry have until December 31, 2025, to establish regular operations by obtaining fresh licenses at www.goldbod.gov.gh, the official GoldBod website. Submissions made by hand will not be accepted.

Among the new categories are:

  • Category A for Ghanaian artisans and small-scale jewellers producing for local sale.
  • Category B for medium-sized Ghanaian companies producing for both local and export markets.
  • Category C for large-scale local and foreign jewellery manufacturers.
  • Refinery Licence for entities seeking to operate gold refineries in Ghana.

Before submitting, candidates were advised by GoldBod to study all eligibility conditions and fee schedules.
