Government sympathies to the late Nana Konadu Agyeman- Rawlings’ family

Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, the pioneer of the 31st December Women’s Movement and a former First Lady, passed away, the government said with great sadness.

On Thursday, October 23, 2025, the Presidency Communications Office released a statement stating that Mrs. Rawlings died early in the morning following a brief illness.

The statement said, “Government announces with deep regret and profound sorrow, the untimely passing of former First Lady and Founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement, Her Excellency Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.”

The government sent her immediate family its sincerest sympathies.

Mrs. Rawlings was a trailblazing supporter of gender equality and women’s empowerment in Ghana. 

She was the wife of the late former president Jerry John Rawlings.

Numerous women across benefited from her support of social and economic efforts through the 31st December Women’s Movement.
