The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has launched an investigation into an alleged extortion incident involving a Customs officer stationed at the Accra International Airport (AIA).
The investigation follows a video circulating on social media in which Ghanaian TikToker Lady Rev. Adwoa Pretty alleged that a Customs officer at the airport collected GH¢600 from her without issuing an official receipt.
In the video, the TikToker raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding the payment and questioned the conduct of the officer allegedly involved.
The allegations attracted significant attention on social media, prompting the Ghana Revenue Authority to issue an official response and announce an investigation into the matter.
GRA Responds to Customs Extortion Allegations
In a statement, the GRA said it had taken note of the video and the allegations made by Lady Rev. Adwoa Pretty.
The Authority confirmed that it has commenced investigations into the alleged payment and will provide an update to the public after the process has been completed.
The GRA has not disclosed the identity of the Customs officer allegedly involved in the incident. It has also not provided further details about the circumstances surrounding the alleged GH¢600 payment.
The Authority emphasised that its operations are guided by integrity, accountability and professionalism, stressing its commitment to ensuring that these standards are maintained by all officers.
The investigation is expected to establish the facts surrounding the allegation and determine whether any breach of the GRA’s procedures occurred.
The development comes amid growing public interest in GRA Customs operations at Ghana’s airports, particularly regarding official payments, receipts and the conduct of Customs officials.
