The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has suspended the planned pre-shipment inspection exercise for imported used vehicles, delaying the implementation of a new policy that was expected to introduce mandatory verification before vehicles are shipped to Ghana.
The suspension was announced in a public notice issued on October 5, 2026, directed at vehicle importers, dealers and other stakeholders in Ghana’s automobile and vehicle importation sector.
According to the GSA, the planned effective date for the pre-shipment inspection of used vehicles has been suspended until further notice.
The Authority said a new implementation date will be announced once arrangements for the exercise are finalised.
The suspension means importers of used cars into Ghana will have to await further communication from the GSA regarding when the new vehicle inspection requirements will take effect.
The proposed pre-shipment inspection policy is expected to strengthen vehicle verification and standards compliance for used vehicles being shipped into the country.
The GSA has therefore urged vehicle importers and other affected stakeholders to take note of the suspension and await official information on the revised implementation date.
The development is expected to be closely monitored by car importers, vehicle dealers and businesses involved in Ghana’s used vehicle market as they await further details from the Ghana Standards Authority.
