The Member of Parliament for Hohoe, Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, has appealed for urgent assistance for residents affected by severe flooding in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region.
Speaking on the Channel One Newsroom on Monday, September 28, 2026, the Hohoe MP said more than 400 homes have been affected, while over 3,000 residents have been displaced and are currently seeking temporary shelter.
River Dayi Overflows After Heavy Rainfall
The flooding occurred after heavy rainfall caused the River Dayi to overflow its banks, affecting several communities located around the river.
The Zongo community is among the worst-affected areas, with the MP reporting that more than half of the community has been submerged by floodwaters.
Residents whose homes have been affected have been evacuated to temporary shelters, including classrooms, while authorities work to identify more suitable accommodation and support for the displaced population.
Hohoe Flood Disaster Overwhelms Local Authorities
Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo said the scale of the flooding has placed significant pressure on the Hohoe Municipal Assembly and local authorities, whose available resources are insufficient to meet the needs of all affected residents.
He therefore appealed to individuals, organisations and other stakeholders to provide emergency assistance to flood victims.
“It’s overwhelming. The MP and the MCE alone cannot, in fact, we are not able to. We are calling for support,” he said.
The appeal comes as authorities continue efforts to provide shelter, relief items and other essential assistance to residents affected by the Hohoe flood disaster.
NADMO and Security Agencies Assist Flood Victims
The Hohoe MP commended the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and security agencies for their response to the emergency.
According to him, personnel from the agencies have been assisting with the evacuation of residents from flooded homes while taking measures to minimise the risk of loss of lives.
Floodwaters Continue to Rise in Hohoe
Although the heavy rainfall has stopped in Hohoe, Tsekpo said the situation remains fluid, with floodwaters continuing to rise in some affected communities.
He called for sustained emergency support as local authorities and emergency response agencies continue working to protect residents and provide assistance to families displaced by the flooding.
The situation has increased concerns over flood safety, emergency shelter and humanitarian support in the Hohoe Municipality, as efforts continue to assist thousands of affected residents.
