All eyes will be fixed on Group A which consists of heavy-hitters of African football.
Tournament hosts, Cote d’Ivoire jointly headline the group along with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.
The former Ivorian captain and leading all-time leading goalscorer conceded to the group being difficult but believed his nation was up for the challenge.
“Well, the only thing I know is that it’s a very difficult group. Nigeria is of course one of the favourites and to have them in our group, it is going to be a challenge. But we are up for it. This is the beauty of such a competition as AFCON, so we are ready to take the challenge and let the best teams of this group out and the best teams in all the other groups qualify” said a modest Drogba.
Both Nigeria and the hosts have tasted continental success with the hosts having won it twice in 1992 and 2015 while Nigeria have lifted the coveted title three times in 1980, 1994 and 2013.
Not to be underestimated are Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau who have the potential of causing an upset in next year’s continental showdown.
