The Electoral Commission Chair Jean Mensa’s justification that the elections administration body is running on a tight budget, as a result, the limiting of the ongoing 21-day voter registration effort to just the Commission’s 268 district offices, has been referred to as a “barefaced lie” by the minority caucus.
According to Minority Chief Whip Kwame Governs Agbodza, “one of the false, weak, and flimsy excuses the EC Chair, madam Jean Adukwei Mensa, sought to canvass at her press conference yesterday to justify the EC’s tenacious determination to suppress first-time voters, is her claim that the Commission is acting within the confines of its work-plan and budget as approved by Parliament.”
In a statement that is reproduced in full below, Mr. Agbodza claimed that “nothing could be further from the truth than this barefaced lie,” which “once again betrays the sinister and ulterior motive by this Jean Mensa/Bossman Asare-led EC to frustrate first-time voters”
