The founder of Sesi-Edem Company Limited and Volta Region representative on the Council of State, Dr. Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, has vehemently objected to a recent statement from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), characterising the agency’s operations as illegal and contemptuous.
Dr. Kwamigah-Atokple stated in an official media statement on March 30, 2026, that EOCO’s claims are related to a dispute involving JG Resources Ltd. that the High Court in Adentan has previously decided in a definitive manner on March 19, 2026.
He stated that the court determined that EOCO’s investigation of him was unlawful and in breach of constitutional fairness norms.
He continued by saying that the court later ordered the defreezing of Sesi-Edem Company Limited’s previously frozen bank accounts.
He described the action as careless and on the verge of contempt of court, saying that “Instead of respecting the Court’s authority, EOCO has chosen to publicly attack the judgment and proceed with an ‘investigation’ that the Court has expressly ruled it has no authority to conduct,”
Dr. Kwamigah-Atokple also accused Raymond Archer, the Executive Director of EOCO, of a pattern of unprofessional behaviour and media sensationalism.
He alleges that a business arrangement between Sesi-Edem Company Limited and JG Resources Ltd. for the supply of gold between June 2025 and June 2026 is the root of the issue.
He pointed out that although the contractual date had not yet passed, the complainant had acknowledged that at least 58% of the gold had been provided by November 2025.
He contended that EOCO had mistakenly tried to criminalise what is fundamentally a civil contractual dispute, saying, “There was no legal or factual basis to label the outstanding quantity as fraudulent.”
Sesi-Edem Company Limited has legitimate authorisation from the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), the sector minister, and the Ghana Gold Board, he added, refuting allegations that the business operated without the required licenses.
He said that these were brought before the court and approved.
Before the court decision, Dr. Kwamigah-Atokple insisted that his company had completely cooperated with EOCO. He revealed that on December 3, 2025, the Managing Director of Sesi-Edem accepted an invitation to EOCO, gave a written statement, and took part in interviews; on November 28, 2025, the company’s legal team turned in all required paperwork.
He insisted that he had not received an invitation to appear, calling EOCO’s decision to label him a wanted person unfounded.
The member of the Council of State has given EOCO a 12-hour deadline to retract its statement and offer a complete public apology, threatening to take legal action to defend the court’s authority and preserve his reputation if the agency does not comply.
He declared, “I firmly stand on the side of the law, and I expect every public institution to do the same.”
Concerns regarding tensions between investigative agencies and the judiciary, as well as the management of high-value transactions within Ghana’s gold trading industry, are raised by the most recent event, which gives the ongoing debate a new dimension.
