The owner of Sesi-Edem Company Limited, Dr. Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, has been identified by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) as a person of interest in an ongoing investigation into a purported money laundering and multi-million cedi gold fraud.
In a statement issued on March 30, 2026, EOCO said the case originated from a petition filed in November 2025 by J.G. Resources Ltd in collaboration with Unigold Trading LLC. According to the petition, Sesi-Edem Company Limited obtained gold worth GH¢57,759,594.68 through fraudulent means.
According to EOCO, the inquiry is being carried out in accordance with the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044), the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and the Economic and Organised Crime Act, 2010 (Act 804).
The Office reports that Dr. Kwamigah-Atokple was asked to help with investigations in November 2025 but did not accept. As a result, he is being sought to assist with continuing investigations.
According to preliminary research, there may be suspected profits of crime in bank accounts connected to Sesi-Edem Company Limited. In order to stop potential money loss, EOCO froze the accounts on January 30, 2026.
On February 12, 2026, the corporation filed a legal challenge to the freezing order in an attempt to get it reversed. EOCO, however, insists that the measure was required to protect funds that are being investigated.
The Office added that investigations are still underway and that neither the corporation nor its directors have been formally charged.
Additionally, EOCO revealed that the company’s directors have not yet cooperated. It issued a warning that if anyone connected to the investigation continue to elude investigators, it will use all legal means to find, identify, and apprehend them.
The development coincides with regulators stepping up their efforts to combat fraud, illegal financial flows, and regulatory violations as the gold trading industry in Ghana comes under more scrutiny.
The public has been urged by EOCO to help law enforcement by offering any pertinent information to aid in the inquiry.
