President John Dramani Mahama has held high-level talks with India’s Minister for External Affairs, Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, as Ghana and India seek to deepen bilateral relations and expand economic cooperation.
The discussions focused on key areas of Ghana-India relations, including trade, investment, railway development, pharmaceutical manufacturing, infrastructure, healthcare and information and communication technology (ICT).
President Mahama said Ghana is committed to strengthening its economic partnership with India while creating new opportunities for trade and investment. He noted that Ghana’s exports to India have increased significantly, rising from approximately US$3 billion to nearly US$7 billion.
The President also highlighted Ghana’s continued access to Indian agricultural machinery, automobiles and buses, which contribute to economic activity and development across the country.

Ghana Seeks Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Partnerships
A major focus of the meeting was pharmaceutical manufacturing and healthcare cooperation.
President Mahama reaffirmed Ghana’s readiness to work with Indian companies and institutions to expand local production of medicines and vaccines. He said such partnerships are consistent with the country’s health sovereignty objectives under the Accra Reset agenda.
Strengthening domestic pharmaceutical production is expected to improve access to essential medicines while reducing Ghana’s dependence on imported healthcare products.
Ghana-India Trade and Investment Opportunities
The two sides also discussed opportunities to increase Ghana-India trade and investment, particularly in strategic sectors that can support job creation, industrial development and economic growth.
President Mahama stressed the importance of building a fairer global economic system and promoting international cooperation that avoids unilateralism and the abuse of smaller nations.
Dr Jaishankar conveyed greetings from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu. He said both Indian leaders expect the Ghana-India comprehensive partnership to take on greater practical significance through new areas of cooperation.

Expanding Bilateral Cooperation
The latest discussions form part of continuing efforts to strengthen the longstanding relationship between Ghana and India.
The two countries have identified several areas for deeper collaboration, including infrastructure development, railway projects, ICT, healthcare, pharmaceutical production, trade and investment.
The renewed focus on economic cooperation is expected to create additional opportunities for businesses in both countries while supporting Ghana’s broader development and industrialisation agenda.
