President John Dramani Mahama has said criticism from Ghanaians on social media platforms, including TikTok, helps him monitor his government’s performance and hold ministers accountable for challenges in their respective sectors.

Speaking during an engagement with the Ghanaian community in Moscow, Russia, President Mahama explained that he regularly follows public complaints online and sometimes contacts ministers directly to demand explanations and updates on issues affecting citizens.

The President stressed that he welcomes criticism, insisting that public feedback helps him identify weaknesses in government operations and improve his leadership.

He disclosed that social media posts, videos and media reports serve as important sources of information about developments across the country, assuring Ghanaians that their concerns do not go unnoticed.

As an example, Mahama cited a social media complaint about a bridge in the Ashanti Region that had reportedly been washed away following illegal mining activities. He said the complaint was forwarded to the responsible regional minister, who visited the area, identified a blocked water channel and arranged for an excavator to clear the obstruction.

President Mahama described social media as a valuable tool for responsive governance and urged citizens to continue reporting issues that threaten national development.

He also called on Ghanaians to demand accountability from government officials regardless of their political affiliations, emphasising that national interest should take priority over partisan politics.
