Outside the banking sector, Scancom PLC, trading as MTN Ghana, remained the leading market mover.
The telecommunications company accounted for 35.44% of equities volume and 60.16% of value traded in August, maintaining its dominant position in Ghana’s equity market.
Mining company Asante Gold Corporation traded at GH¢37, with its share price remaining unchanged during the month.
Meanwhile, NewGold, the gold-backed exchange-traded fund, declined by 3.67% year-to-date to GH¢462.39.
On the Ghana Alternative Market (GAX), Hords PLC and Intravenous Infusions PLC recorded some of the biggest year-to-date share price increases, rising by 780% and 1,420%, respectively. However, the GSE data showed that these gains were accompanied by relatively thin trading volumes.
Elsewhere, Benso Oil Palm Plantation declined by 4.2% during August, while Guinness Ghana Breweries fell by 10.2%.
The strong performance of Ghana banking stocks in 2026 highlights the growing importance of equities as investors respond to lower Treasury bill yields, declining inflation and improving banking-sector fundamentals.
