The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 40-year-old man, identified as Roger Borbobli, after allegedly discovering 91 parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in his possession at the VIP Bus Terminal at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
Borbobli was arrested on October 29, 2026, following intelligence reports that he was carrying suspected narcotic substances in three suitcases at the busy transport terminal.
According to the police, some loading boys at the terminal became suspicious after detecting an unusual smell coming from the suitcases and alerted officers.
A police team subsequently arrived at the scene, arrested the suspect and searched the luggage, uncovering 91 parcels of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspect reportedly valued the seized substances at GH¢33,600.
During interrogation, Borbobli allegedly identified himself as a farmer from Sovie Kudzra, near Kpando in the Volta North Region. He reportedly told investigators that although he cultivated Indian hemp, the parcels found in his possession had been obtained from another farmer identified only as Benjamin, from the same community.
The Ghana Police Service disclosed that the seized substances would be forwarded to the Police Forensic Crime Laboratory for scientific examination to establish their identity.
Borbobli remains in police custody and is assisting investigators with ongoing inquiries. He is expected to be arraigned before court as investigations continue.
