The Accra Circuit Court has placed 21-year-old porter Denis Boateng under police detention after he stole a GH¢40,000 Hyundai Grace commercial vehicle.
On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, Boateng came before Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit and entered a guilty plea to the theft accusation. On April 28, 2025, he is scheduled to make another court appearance for sentencing.
Prosecutor Chief Inspector Kwadwo Aboagye gave the court the case’s facts, stating that the complainant had given his Hyundai Grace, registered under the license plate GS 2879-17, to a man named Wisdom Frimpong for business purposes.
But the car had a problem on December 30, 2024, and was parked at the Dansoman Korle-Bu trotro station.
The car was gone by the time the complainant and his driver came back with a mechanic on December 5 to fix it.
On April 8, 2025, an official report was filed with the police following months of unsuccessful searching.
Eventually, sources at the Darkuman Police Station noticed Boateng and turned him over to the Kaneshie Police.
He acknowledged selling the car to a junk trader at Darkuman Cable Wireless for GH¢42,000 after confessing to stealing it during interrogation.
So far, there has been no success in tracking down the purported buyer.
Boateng was charged and brought before the court after investigations.
The judge remanded him into custody for final punishment on the next postponed date because of his guilty plea.
