President John Dramani Mahama has urged Muslims to use their prayers as a catalyst for peace and prosperity and as a barrier to keep Ghana from becoming divided.

Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, a member of the Council of State who delivered the message on his behalf, stated that President Mahama was looking to Muslims for ongoing intercession for the security of Ghana’s borders, the cohesion of its citizens, and the stability of government as the country navigates impending political cycles.

“Let your prayers be the shield to protect Ghana from divisiveness that had plagued other nations. I am seeking your prayers and continuous intercession for the peace of our nation,” the message said.

The call was made on Tuesday night during the 15th Annual Night of Power in the month of Ramadan, which was hosted by the Muslim Caucus of Parliament under the direction of Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

“The Night that Changes Destiny: Ghana’s Prayer for Peace, Progress, and Prosperity” was the theme of the event.

President Mahama expressed confidence that Allah will “rewrite the destiny of the nation by turning challenges into opportunities and anxieties into hope,” saying that the topic struck a deep chord with Ghana’s goals of guaranteeing peace and prosperity.

He asked Muslims to pray for peace in the Middle East and the subregion, pointing out that hostilities there could sabotage Ghana’s economic progress and interfere with global supply chains.

The President recalled measures his administration had put in place to make the trip to Mecca easier and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to finishing the Hajj Village in Accra so pilgrims could move with comfort.

The National Chief Imam’s spokesperson, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, led the assembly in prayers for the President, Vice President, Speaker of Parliament, Chief Justice, and the country.

The Annual Night of Power has become a significant fixture in Ghana’s religious calendar, bringing together Muslim leaders and faithful to pray for peace, progress, and prosperity of the nation.
