The Russian Federation’s ambassador to Ghana has been called by the Ghanaian government in response to what it claims is illegal behaviour by a purported Russian person who was accused of releasing sexually graphic photos of Ghanaian women without their permission.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported in a news release on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, that His Excellency Sergei Berdnikov was invited at the Minister’s direction to publicly voice the government’s severe complaint over the occurrence.

The Ministry stated that the purpose of the meeting was to express Ghana’s disapproval of what it called “atrocious conduct” that infringes upon Ghanaian legislation as well as the victims’ privacy and dignity. In order to pursue justice in the case, the administration also asked Russia for assistance.

Ambassador Berdnikov recognised the gravity of the accusations, pointing out the privacy violations and wider ramifications of cybercrime.

He stated that the Russian Federation is prepared to work with Ghanaian authorities to resolve the matter.

The Ambassador did, however, state that he was unable to verify the Russian identity of the person shown in the widely shared videos.

He also revealed that the moniker that is making the rounds in some parts of the media is not a recognised Russian name and is an improper or vulgar way to use the Russian language.

He also said that Russian officials had learned of similar purported actions connected to the same person in other nations, and Russian experts were now looking into them.

In order to assist Ghana’s continuous attempts to find, capture, and prosecute the culprit, the ambassador promised that the Russian Embassy in Accra would provide pertinent information.

Despite the lack of a legally binding extradition treaty between Ghana and Russia, he pointed out that this collaboration would occur within the framework of the two nations’ long-standing bilateral relations.

The public was reassured by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that it is still dedicated to using the friendly relations between Ghana and Russia and will look into all international channels and options to guarantee that justice is done.
