Ghana’s Information Services Department (ISD) has announced that the 69th Independence Anniversary Parade will take place on March 6, 2026, in the forecourt of Jubilee House.

In a notification dated February 24, 2026, editors were notified of media coverage arrangements and invited to submit accreditation applications by February 27, 2026, at 5:00 pm. The notice was issued by Dr. Winnifred N. Mahama, Acting Director of the Information Services Department.

For the second year in a row, the national parade will be held at the government’s seat, Jubilee House.

A similar arrangement was made in 2025 when Jubilee House hosted the 68th Independence Day celebration as part of an attempt to save back on state spending.

Government estimates at the time showed that the event cost GH¢1.5 million, as opposed to an expected GH¢15 million if it had been held at Black Star Square.

Traditionally, Independence Day parades have taken place in Black Star Square, which was finished in 1961. It has been the main location for military and civilian demonstrations over the years, including schoolchildren’s and security forces’ marches.

Each media outlet will only be given one accreditation spot, according to Dr. Mahama, due to space constraints and the expected volume of applicants. However, media outlets that currently hold presidential accreditation could designate reporters who have already been permitted to cover the event.

A formal letter from the media outlet containing the names and contact information of the designated journalist and crew is required for applications.

The Information Services Department must receive the letter prior to the specified deadline.

Late entrants may not be allowed entrance, and accreditation will not be transferable. It is expected of all accredited staff to wear business or formal clothes.

In order to be positioned and subjected to security screening, photographers and videographers must arrive at the location by 6:45 am. They have to stay inside the allotted media areas and always wear their accreditation badges.

During the presidential address, the playing of the national anthem, and other important ceremonial moments, movement will not be allowed.

Professional cameras and video equipment are the only ones permitted. Drone and aerial gadget use is strictly forbidden unless authorised in writing.

While stabilisers and gimbals will be allowed within the specified parameters, tripods and monopods must be placed in places that have been approved. Mobile or personal devices will not be permitted to stream live.

Only official photographers and videographers assigned to the Red Security Zone will have access to the presidential dais and its immediate vicinity.

VIP seating spaces and security checks are two more restricted places.

Ghana Television and Presidency Communications will work together to offer broadcasters a live video feed.

Media outlets must specify in their accreditation applications if they plan to broadcast the event live.
