The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has called the First Quarter Meeting of its Gender Equity Committee for 2026, reaffirming its commitment to improving gender equality and encouraging the effective implementation of affirmative action laws across Ghana.

The committee is crucial in directing policy, encouraging gender mainstreaming across industries, and guaranteeing adherence to national frameworks on gender equality.

The finalisation and adoption of Terms of Reference for its subcommittees, a crucial step intended to improve coordination, clarify duties, and boost operational efficiency, was one of the meeting’s main agenda topics.

Members also discussed institution-specific gender policies, which gave them a chance to evaluate how well they aligned with national aims and exchange best practices to improve gender responsiveness across institutions.

The commissioning and operationalisation of the “Gender Equity Committee Secretariat” was one of the meeting’s main highlights.

The Secretariat was established in accordance with the goals of the Affirmative Action Framework and is expected to support the Committee administratively and technically, enhance coordination of activities, improve documentation and reporting systems, enable efficient reporting systems, and enable efficient monitoring of gender-related policies and programs.

The Minister, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, thanked the members for their ongoing commitment to the Committee’s work during her remarks.

She underlined that their efforts are still crucial for establishing institutional frameworks, influencing policy, and guaranteeing quantifiable results.

The Minister emphasised the need for a results-oriented strategy that converts policy pledges into observable benefits in citizens’ lives and urged members to participate actively and constructively in debates.

The conference is a component of the Ministry’s continuous efforts to improve institutional frameworks and quicken the process of attaining inclusive national development and gender equity.
